Circa 1937-1938.
Featured here is one of the rarest and most collectable vintage Gruen Curvex "Driver's" models known as the Gruen Curvex Lord which is believed to be one of the very first Ristside (wrist-side) models. Designed to be worn on the side of the wrist, they place the dial in line with the base of the thumb. When driving, you can see the dial without turning your arm or letting go of the steering wheel.
The 10k gold-filled case is ornately designed with parallel lines with a nicely polished finish. The two-tone butler silver and white dial appears to be in very good condition with minor very little patina. The dial is engraved 330 in the back indicating the Gruen movement series corresponding with this watch. All applied gold numerals are intact and moderne style hands set smoothly. Tucked underneath the dial is Gruen Curvex Precision grade 330 movement with 17 jewels that has been cleaned, oiled, and timed for 24 hours. Serial on movement: 574794. The Gruen signed crown winds fluidly and the case only shows wear marks on the sides of the snap back case and light scratches throughout. The inside back case reads: Cased & Timed in USA by The Gruen Watch Co., 304/330, 2620214. This timepiece measures approx. 21mm in width (excluding the crown) x 38mm from lug end to lug end.
