Circa 1942, 1946-1949.
Featured here is a Hamilton Howard tank watch in a 10K yellow gold filled Wadsworth case with an original enamel numeral dial and index steel blued hands. In 1931 Hamilton bought the goodwill and trademarks of the E. Howard Watch Co. Hamilton produced a limited number of "Howard" watches, primarily to protect their interest in the trademark of the name and brand. The Hamilton-Howards include a dozen 10-size pocket watches (grade H917) finished in 1939 and 1,075 wristwatches, using a 14/0 grade Hamilton 980.
First produced only in 1942 and then from 1946-1949. The Howard 14/0 grade wristwatches were assigned serial numbers HW001-HW1075. The first examples were cased in solid gold cases, the Pierre and Sherwood, but the bulk were cased in 10K gold-filled cases made by Wadsworth using the same case as the Stanford, except marked “HOWARD” inside.
I acquired this watch from Rene Rondeau years ago and must say that this is one of two I have seen in all my collecting years with a Howard inner and outer box. The case is in excellent condition and the buckle is signed Hamilton as well.
Beneath the dial is a Howard grade H980 manual hand winding movement with 17 jewels has been serviced and kept good time over a 24 hour period. Case measurements are approximately 23mm in width (excluding the crown) x 38mm from lug end to lug end. The inside back case reads: Howard, Wadsworth, 10K Goldfilled, H736326.
