Circa 1940-1945.
Featured here is a vintage Elgin WWII military issued wristwatch in a base metal case with a white luminous dial and skeleton hands.  The dial is in great condition with minimal wear for it's age.  During WWII, Elgin was one of the handful of American manufacturers who supplied watches for the U.S. Armed Forces. The watch has some light scratches throughout the case.  In 1940, the Ordnance Department published the requirements for military watches. The list includes pocket, wrist, and stop watches. Early models had a screw back case while later models had a snap back. Powering this watch is an Elgin grade 554 manual hand winding movement with 15 jewels that has been cleaned and kept good time over a 24 hour period.  The watch sets and winds smoothly and comes fitted with a new acrylic crystal as well as brand new genuine leather straps.  The snap back case reads: Wadsworth Base Metal on the inside and on the outside it reads: ORD. DEPT. U.S.A. OD-48272.  The case measures approximately 30mm wide x 36mm in overall length.
