Featured here is a vintage military G.C.T. Sidereal .800 fine silver pocket watch with a black 24 hour dial decorated with white numerals and white minute track with matching white painted hour/minute hands and a sweeping seconds hand. This 16 size pendant set pocket watch has a fully operational hack function and is adjusted to six positions and temperature. Both the coin edged bezel and back have a screw on application with light scratches on the back case and a small nick near the number 9 on the bezel. The watch sets and winds smoothly and measures at approximately 51.5mm in diameter. Powering this watch is a genuine Hamilton grade 4992B manual hand winding movement with 22 jewels that runs strong and kept good time over a 24 hour period. Please note that a sidereal day is about 4 minutes shorter than a normal day*. The inside back case is signed: Keystone, Silver, .800 Fine, 4681668 while the outside is signed: Part No. AN5740, MFR'S Part No.4992B, Serial No.4507-42, Contract No.86366, Hamilton Watch Co.
*Sidereal time measures the rotation of our planet relative to the stars. A solar day is longer than a sidereal day because not only is the Earth spinning on its axis but it's also orbiting around the Sun. That means its takes slightly longer each day, about 4 minutes, for the Sun to appear in the same part of the sky as it did the previous day. On Earth, a sidereal day lasts for 23 hours 56 minutes 4.091 seconds, which is slightly shorter than the solar day measured from noon to noon. Our usual definition of an Earth day is 24 hours, so the sidereal day is 4 minutes faster.
