Here we have a very unique and rare watch . It contains a Hamilton 401 movement, looks like an Andrews but is gold-filled. There are no records for this watch at this time. The inside of the case says W (Wadsworth who was a case maker for Hamilton), 10K rolled gold plate, T907786. I own 3 of these currently, have sold 2 in my life and am offering this one for sale. My best guess and it’s only a guess, is that these cases were made to house a Hamilton 401 or a Longines 9.47N and presented to Hamilton to use the balance of their 401 movements at some point in the 1940s? I have included in the photos an example of a signed case to show how it looks signed vs. unsigned. My theory to me is that Hamilton liked the design and decided to make a few of these cases in 10K gold fill to use with the remainder of their 401 movements.
The case looks like a solid gold Andrews but there are slight differences. I own about 5-6 models of Hamilton’s in which there is no data or production records, but are properly marked Hamilton Watch Co inside. This is one of those models (this one is not marked Hamilton inside).
This wristwatch features an applied gold numeral dial and "leaf" style hands. The serviced 401 manual hand winding movement has 19 jewels and runs strong and kept good time over a 24 hour period. There are only light scratches on the case and the watch sets and winds smoothly. Case measurements are approximately 22mm wide (excluding the crown) x 38mm from lug end to lug end.
